COAXIAL GEOEXCHANGER

After our many years of experience in designing and manufacturing geothermal systems and investing in research and improvement, we have studied and patented the Coaxial Geoxchanger (EL 1006448).

By geo-exchanger we refer to a closed circuit of pipes (usually polyethylene) which is placed horizontally or vertically in the ground and connected to the geothermal heat pump. In the pipes, a water-cooled solution circulates with the help of a pump that absorbs (heats) or delivers (cooling) heat to the ground.

There are two main types of geo-exchangers, the horizontal consisting of coils of polyethylene pipes located at a depth of about 2m to the ground and the vertical consisting of one or two pairs of polyethylene pipes joined at the bottom with a U-joint and drilled. In both cases, the water exchanger circulates water which is a means of transmitting heat from the earth to the geothermal heat pump.

The coaxial geo-exchanger comes to change the landscape in geothermal plants as its innovative way of operating and its different geometrical structure over classic U-type geo-exchangers guarantees over-rendering that makes geothermal systems even more attractive in terms of initial cost and installation cost.

The coaxial geo-exchanger consists of a tube in a tube with great energy transfer capabilities.  Many combinations of coaxial geoexchangers connections can be made (in series or in parallel). The number of geo exchangers and how they are connected depends on the geothermal heat pump power and the depth of drilling.

The design of each coaxial geoexchanger varies with each application according to its needs and geological data so that with the help of our specialized software programs, its performance can be optimized.

The largest application of coaxial geoexchanger in Europe has been made by us in the new building of the Region of Central Macedonia in Thessaloniki. Four (4) Large Type coaxial geo-exchangers were manufactured with the following characteristics:

Depth: 150 m each
Cross-section of outer metal tube: Φ150 mm
Internal tube cross section: Φ90 / 50 mm with intermediate insulation
